About George & Maggie
George Yeomans began climbing and mountaineering at the age of seventeen and qualified in 1978 with a Teachers’ Certificate in Outdoor Education. He also obtained a variety of National Awards in various outdoor pursuits including a Summer Mountain Leaders Award then a B.A. Degree with the Open University in environmental sciences and curriculum development. He spent 15 years as a primary teacher finishing with the position of Headship.
Later he obtained the Winter Mountain Leader Award and in September 2002 qualified as a European Mountain Leader and joined the British Association of European Mountain Leaders (now International Mountain Leaders). In 2004 he completed the Association's Winter Alpine Snowshoe Providers Course and from 2005 became a member of the Union of International Mountain Leaders Association. In 2006 George completed the NCFE National Qualification, Bushcraft Instructors Course and also achieved a higher award for demonstrating exceptional ability in the field of bushcraft skills & instruction.Most recently Mountain & Bushcraft Ways has been licenced by Woodcraft School to provide accredited NCFE level 2 & 3 Bushcraft Courses and George is part of Woodcraft School's Bushcraft Team as an assessor for northern Britain.
George is a member of the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) and is a Trainer and Assessor for their new Foundational Bushcraft Competency Certificate.
Since 1995, he has been a member of the local Scottish Mountain Rescue Team and is qualified in mountain rescue first aid and holds the "Casualty Care Award", he also holds a Health & Safety at Work First Aid Certificate.
In 1998 the Scottish Youth Hostel Association approached George to run all its Skye-based Cuillin Munro bagging courses and more recently their Bushcraft Courses at Rowardennan, Loch Lomond. He also runs "Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Courses" in Bushcraft for the Association of International Mountain Leaders and Mountain Leaders Training Association plus other professionals connected with the outdoors such as D of E providers, Forest School Leaders and LEA centres. He holds an enhanced CRB certificate for working with youth groups and vulnerable adults and a Food Hygiene Certificate for bushcraft activities.
He is a Freelance Provider for the National Navigation Award Scheme and has worked in this capacity for the Wildwalks Project in Scotland.
Most recently he has completed the Level 3 OCN Forest School Leaders Award.
Maggie Yeomans holds a Certificate in Education and arranges all the bookings for the mountain leading and bushcraft courses. She is in charge of the catering arrangements on many of the longer woodland based bushcraft courses and as such holds a Food HygieneCertificate. She also holds an enhanced CRB certificate for working with youth groups and vulnerable adults.
